Italy for Art

Art creates shared languages, facilitating contact between people and between cultures. Italian artists use a multiplicity of codes and tecniques to express the creative spirit that is so often associated with our country.

In the autumn of 2022 contemporary art was the focus of a number of initiatives run by this embassy, from 10 to 15 October, a period the coincided with Frieze London 2022.

8 October 2022 was the 18th Day of Contemporary Art, a festival run by the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums (AMACI) with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture and with the collaboration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The programme of events in London began with Spotlight Italia, a special project, part of Start Art Fair (StART) at the Saatchi Gallery. For the second year running, the StART Projects area had a special space dedicated to Italy, curated by Serenella Ciclitira. The space, run in collaboration with the embassy, aimed to push the boundaries of the traditional perception of Italian art, which is often associated with the classical and renaissance periods. It displayed work by 13 Italian artists (compared to seven the previous year) demonstrating a dynamic, modern field in continual evolution.

The week dedicated to art continues with Italy at Frieze, an initiative that was launched in 2019 to celebrate Italian art in London during Frieze London.
