Italy for Innovation

Italy for Innovation

The Italy4Innovation series of events is an original format, launched by the Embassy of Italy in London in partnership with the Italian Trade Agency and the Italian minister of economic development, which seeks to examine the knowledge and innovation economy in advanced sectors. The aim of the initiative is to stimulate more structured collaboration between top Italian and British companies, start-ups, innovative SMEs, incubators, accelerators, think tanks, universities and institutions, by creating a platform for regular sharing of experience and ideas.

The objective is twofold: firstly to share and compare development models, best practices and regulatory frameworks adopted by Italy and the UK for support schemes, tax incentives and technology-transfer methods, and secondly to bring innovative Italian and British businesses together to facilitate collaboration and joint projects of interest to investors on both sides.

Italy4Innovation is the product of a number of reflections: the complementarities between the two countries’ productive systems; the parallels between the UK’s industrial strategy (the catapult model) and Italy’s Industry 4.0 plan; the large number of innovative Italian businesses in the UK; and the recent development of an ecosystem in Italy that facilitates the creation of start-ups and boosts advanced sectors.

The series also seeks to examine potential interest in the UK in Italian SMEs in the field of advanced manufacturing. With considerable strengths in the field of manufacturing, particularly in the segments of industrial automation and robotics, Italy has significant potential as a strategic partner in the relaunch of the British industrial sector, especially in the light of the UK’s new industrial strategy.

The series is part of Italy’s strategy for attracting foreign direct investment by developing links between top Italian producers and the London financial and technological hub, the largest of its kind in Europe.
