Priorities of Italy’s 2018 OSCE Chairmanship presented at the Italian Embassy

The Italian Ambassador to the UK, Raffaele Trombetta, outlined the priorities of Italy’s 2018 OSCE Chairmanship yesterday evening during an event on “Italy and the UK at the OSCE”, held at the Italian Embassy in London.

The UK Minister of State for Europe and the Americas, Sir Alan Duncan, several high officials of the United Kingdom’s Government and Foreign Office, numerous Heads of Missions of OSCE member countries and of different London-based think tanks attended the event. Following the remarks made on 8 March by Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Angelino Alfano, at the United Nations Security Council, the Italian Ambassador took the opportunity to present the vision and objectives of the Italian 2018 OSCE Chairmanship. The resolution of the crises affecting Europe, beginning with the Ukraine, the stability in the Mediterranean region and fostering security through economic development, are the main pillars for Italy’s chairmanship of the OSCE, as announced by Ambassador Trombetta.

Furthermore, the Ambassador reiterated Italy’s efforts to address other challenges facing Europe and the world, such as tackling any form of discrimination, including on the basis of religion, the campaign for gender equality, initiatives against human trafficking, cyber-security and the fight against terrorism, the latter being the focus of an international conference that the Italian OSCE Chairmanship will host in May.
