The Embassy of Italy hosted a presentation of a new collaboration between Angelini Academy and University College London aimed at understanding how corporate training can be redesigned to account for the growing use of artificial intelligence.
The event opened with speeches by the Deputy Head of Mission, Minister Plenipotentiary Riccardo Smimmo, and the CEO of Angelini Industries, Sergio Marullo di Condojanni. On the panel were Joe Devlin, Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL; Vivianna Fang He, Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the UCL School of Management; Andrea Prencipe, Chairman of Angelini Academy; and Davide Ravasi, Director of the UCL School of Management. The discussion was moderated by Alessandra Rizzo (Sky News).
In the course of an engaging discussion, the speakers examined the potential pitfalls of artificial intelligence, in particular that unregulated use of the technology – taking advantage of shortcuts that apparently offer efficiency – it removes the need for the effort and struggle that is essential to effective learning. The outcome is a loss, in the long term, of critical thinking and decision-making skills.
However, there are methods of using AI for teaching and learning in such a way as to not only avoid losing but actually enhance these skills.
This is the aim of the collaboration between Angelini Academy and UCL aimed at training managers while experimenting with methods for employing AI in a regulated, responsible way. The results will be used to help develop training systems that support people throughout their lifelong professional journeys.
