A preview of the exhibition Raphael: The Drawings was held yesterday at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, in the presence of Ambassador Terracciano.<\/p>\n
The Ashmolean Museum<\/a> is already home to the world\u2019s largest collection of drawings by Raphael. The exhibition Raphael: The Drawings features 120 drawings by the Renaissance master, including loans from a number of major museums, such as the Louvre in Paris, the Albertina in Vienna and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence<\/a>. Two particularly prized pieces in this exhibition are Head of a Muse, which was auctioned for a record sum of \u20ac32 million in 2009, and Heads of Two Apostles and their Hands, widely considered to be the artist\u2019s greatest drawing.<\/p>\n Raphael Sanzio is recognised around the world as one of the greatest Renaissance masters and one of the most influential painters in the history of western art. Although he died at just 37, he left behind a great artistic legacy that would influence the styles of painters and architects around Europe for centuries to come.<\/p>\n Raphael: the drawings has received excellent reviews from the British press.
