Follow up on agreements on matters of fiscal transparency between Italy and States of Jersey<\/STRONG><\/P> Ambassador Pasquale Terracciano<\/STRONG> visited the Island of Jersey<\/STRONG> on 16 and 17 July with the Italian Consul General in London Massimiliano Mazzanti<\/STRONG> and Colonel Emilio Fiora<\/STRONG>, Guardia di Finanza liaison officer in the UK. The visiting delegation met with Jersey government representatives over two days , which offered the opportunity to further strengthen the already excellent relations between Italy and the States of Jersey.<\/P> The Ambassador met Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst<\/STRONG>, and other States Members, including the Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf<\/STRONG>. He also met the Lieutenant Governor, General Sir John McColl<\/STRONG>, and was the guest of honour at a dinner hosted by the Bailiff, William Bailhache<\/STRONG>.<\/P> The meetings with local representatives were also a chance for follow up and discussion on recent progress made in matters of fiscal transparency following the tax information exchange agreement (TIEA) between the countries which came into force on 26 January 2015.<\/P> Following the application of the TIEA, Jersey was removed from an Italian list of countries that do not comply with international standards on the disclosure of fiscal information. This agreement is another step forward in the fight against international money laundering, tax evasion and avoidance.<\/P> The visit also offered an opportunity for the respective fiscal authorities, the Jersey police and the Italian Guardia di Finanza to take stock of their close collaboration. In this respect, the Italian Embassy in London has strived to promote a strong and continuous dialogue between Italy and the Isle of Jersey. <\/P> During their stay, the Ambassador and Consul General, along with a group of representatives of the local government, met with members of Jersey\u2019s Italian community<\/STRONG> – a small but dynamic community which has successfully integrated itself into the island\u2019s economic and social fabric.
