On\u00a0 27 February\u00a0 the Glasgow Science Centre\u00a0 hosted a day event dedicated to EXPO 2015, in the presence of the Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, and the Ambassador of Italy in the UK, Pasquale Terracciano. The event was attended by about 500 guests, representing the institutions, the food industry, the hospitality, culture, volunteering and Fair Trade sectors.
Two conferences with a scientific focus took place at the venue (chaired by the Minister for International Cooperation, Humza Yusaf, and the Minister of Health, Maureen Wat) dealing with, respectively, fair trade and renewable energies.
In their speeches, both the First Minister and the Ambassador expressed hope for a strong participation at EXPO (which a team from Milan exhaustively presented) by the British public, particularly\u00a0 the Scottish. The First Minister stressed that Scotland\u2019s particular interest in the EXPO is motivated by the historic collaboration with Italy and by Scotland\u2019s involvement in the key themes of the exhibition, mainly nutrition education, sustainability and fair trade. Indeed, on this occasion, Scotland celebrated its appointment as Fair Trade Nation, one of the few in the world.
The Scottish First Minister especially underlined the great opportunities that EXPO Milano provides for Scottish businesses, keeping in mind that 2015 is also the year which is dedicated to the Scottish AGRI-FOOD sector. Milan therefore provides an important platform to also enhance the food and agricultural products of Scotland.
The Ambassador of Italy to the UK, Pasquale Terracciano, stressed that EXPO Milano 2015 touches key global issues, ranging from food safety to renewable energies. In the second half of 2015, Milan will be the global capital of nutrition, confirming Italy\u2019s important ambition to attaining\u00a0leadership in the\u00a0agribusiness sector.
Zonin wine producers and Molisana pasta were among the Italian sponsor of the event, which ended with a dinner prepared by chef Fabio Campoli and a concert by jazz musician Antonio Forcione.
