This year\u2019s theme, <em>\u201cUrban Regeneration: Design for a Better Life,\u201d<\/em> is closely linked to that of the 24th International Exhibition of the Triennale di Milano, titled <em>\u201cInequalities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In his speech, the Italian Ambassador, Inigo Lambertini, emphasized the key role of design in addressing the major social and economic challenges of our time: \u201cDesign is a powerful tool for innovation and social change. Cities, as hubs of economic and social development, are also where inequalities are most evident. Through sustainable urban planning, innovative architecture, and advanced technologies, we can bridge these gaps and create inclusive spaces for all communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first panel featured Stefano Minini (Project Director \u2013 Science &amp; Technology, Europe) and Zen Mumtaz (Socio-Economic Development Manager), both experts from Lendlease. They explored the impact of design and urban regeneration, particularly in the creation of public spaces that meet the needs of diverse communities. The discussion highlighted key case studies such as MIND (Milan Innovation District) in Italy and Stratford Cross in London\u2014two prime examples of how design can drive innovation while also improving the quality of life in urban neighborhoods and fostering social integration.<\/p>\n<p>The second panel, featuring Giulio Antonutto (Associate Director, Computational Design Skills Network Leader) and Daniel Portilla (Associate, Masterplanning &amp; Urban Design) from Arup, focused on the impact of digital technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, on the transformation of urban design. The speakers examined how emerging technologies are revolutionizing city planning and management, with a strong emphasis on creating smarter, more sustainable urban environments. They highlighted the use of tools such as digital twins, data analysis, and AI to optimize urban design, enhance infrastructure quality, and effectively address social and environmental challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, architect Lorenzo Palmeri, a prominent ambassador of Italian design who traveled to London specifically for the event, delved into the topic of environmental sustainability.
