{"id":6223,"date":"2025-11-28T17:46:24","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T16:46:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/amblondra.esteri.it\/?p=6223"},"modified":"2026-02-17T13:50:02","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T12:50:02","slug":"italy-reconfirmed-in-imo-council-category-a-with-the-highest-number-of-votes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amblondra.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2025\/11\/italy-reconfirmed-in-imo-council-category-a-with-the-highest-number-of-votes\/","title":{"rendered":"Italy Reconfirmed in IMO Council Category A with the Highest Number of Votes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"141\" data-end=\"275\"><strong data-start=\"141\" data-end=\"273\">Italy reconfirmed in IMO Council Category A with the highest number of votes: a result of outstanding international significance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"277\" data-end=\"479\">During the proceedings of the 34th Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), held in London, the elections for the new members of the Council for the current biennium concluded today.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"481\" data-end=\"651\">In accordance with the rules of the Assembly, the participation quotas paid to the IMO, and the credentials duly submitted, 169 out of 176 States were admitted to vote.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"653\" data-end=\"928\">Italy achieved a result of exceptional significance, being reconfirmed in Category A \u2014 which comprises the ten states with the greatest interest in international maritime transport \u2014 with 155 votes, corresponding to approximately 91.7% of the total states admitted to vote.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"930\" data-end=\"1069\">With this outcome, Italy ranked first, tied with China, once again affirming its role as a leading country in the global maritime sector.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1071\" data-end=\"1217\">Category A now comprises China, Italy, South Korea, Greece, United Kingdom, Japan, Panama, United States of America, Norway, and Liberia.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1219\" data-end=\"1299\"><strong data-start=\"1219\" data-end=\"1297\">Recognition of Italian leadership and intensive diplomatic work at the IMO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1301\" data-end=\"1580\">This result confirms Italy\u2019s leadership in the international maritime sector, as well as its central role in the processes of defining, updating, and adopting international regulations on maritime safety, marine environmental protection, and technical standards for navigation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1582\" data-end=\"1937\">Reconfirmation in Category A also represents a significant diplomatic success, reflecting the consistent efforts and authoritative negotiating action of Italy\u2019s Permanent Representation to the IMO, which has strengthened alliances, enhanced multilateral cooperation, and highlighted Italy\u2019s contribution to the development of the global maritime sector.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1939\" data-end=\"2181\">Italy will continue to operate with determination within the IMO Council, proactively contributing to the evolution of the international regulatory framework, the promotion of navigation safety, and the sustainability of maritime transport.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Italy reconfirmed in IMO Council Category A with the highest number of votes: a result of outstanding international significance During the proceedings of the 34th Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), held in London, the elections for the new members of the Council for the current biennium concluded today.
