﻿{"id":700,"date":"2021-05-24T10:56:46","date_gmt":"2021-05-24T08:56:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/amblondra.esteri.it\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2021\/05\/incontro-virtuale-dell-universita-2\/"},"modified":"2021-05-24T10:56:46","modified_gmt":"2021-05-24T08:56:46","slug":"incontro-virtuale-dell-universita-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amblondra.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2021\/05\/incontro-virtuale-dell-universita-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Online lecture by CERN director"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 61st <strong>Cherwell Simon Memorial Lecture<\/strong> was held on 20 May 2021, organised by the University of Oxford\u2019s Department of Physics in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in the UK and the Association of Italian Scientists in Great Britain.<\/p>\n<p>Professor<strong> Fabiola Giannotti<\/strong>, director of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), gave an overview of the Geneva-based organisation\u2019s mission \u2013 the study of subatomic particles \u2013 and explained its crucial role in supporting international collaboration among over 18,000 scientists of over 110 nationalities.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture was also an opportunity to look at the groundbreaking results of various research projects carried out at CERN and to explore the immense challenges yet to be confronted by physics, from the origins of the cosmos to the secrets of material and to life.
