London, 20 May 2026 \u2013 On the occasion of Italian Design Day 2026, the Embassy of Italy in London and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) are organising \u201cRe-Design: Regenerating Spaces, Objects, Ideas and Relations\u201d, in collaboration with INTERNI Magazine, as part of Clerkenwell Design Week 2026.<\/p>\n

Italian Design Day \u2013 an initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation<\/a> in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Culture across Italy\u2019s diplomatic network worldwide \u2013 is dedicated this year to the role of design as a driver of cultural, social and industrial regeneration, capable of reinterpreting spaces, objects and relationships through innovation, sustainability and design excellence. In this framework, the London event aims to highlight the ability of Italian design to combine manufacturing heritage, contemporary creativity and openness to international dialogue, reaffirming the role of the Made in Italy brand as a globally recognised model of excellence and innovation.<\/p>\n

The event, scheduled for Wednesday 20 May at 5:00 pm at Haberdashers\u2019 Hall, will bring together some of the leading voices in contemporary design to reflect on the evolution of Italian design and its international impact.<\/p>\n

The programme will open with remarks by the Ambassador of Italy to the United Kingdom, Fabio Cassese, followed by a masterclass delivered by Giulio Cappellini, an architect, entrepreneur and art director, and a conversation featuring Jay Osgerby, a designer, and Jack Wates, Programme Leader in Product and Interior Design at Istituto Marangoni London. The discussion will be moderated by architect Carlo Biasia of INTERNI Magazine.<\/p>\n

Giulio Cappellini, a leading figure in contemporary Italian design, will reflect on the role of design as a means of connecting culture, industry and society, focusing on the value of cross-pollination between creative languages, craftsmanship and aesthetic research. Drawing on his international experience as an entrepreneur, talent scout and art director, he will also explore the contribution of Made in Italy to the development of new models of contemporary living and hospitality.<\/p>\n

During the conversation, Jay Osgerby will revisit the creative dialogue between the Barber Osgerby studio and Cappellini, which over the years has produced iconic projects experimenting with innovative materials and solutions, ranging from marble and ceramics to wood and metal. Jack Wates will instead focus on the importance of education and support for new generations of designers, highlighting the international role of academic institutions and Cappellini\u2019s contribution to nurturing emerging talent through the global network of Istituto Marangoni.<\/p>\n

The event also forms part of a broader programme of initiatives organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ITA within the framework of Clerkenwell Design Week (19\u201321 May), including \u201cThe Italian Hospitality\u201d, an immersive installation conceived by Giulio Cappellini with the support of Leonardo Talarico and curated by INTERNI Magazine.<\/p>\n

Hosted in the historic spaces of Haberdashers\u2019 Hall, the installation offers a contemporary reinterpretation of Italian hospitality through furnishings and objects combining industrial production with outstanding craftsmanship. Featuring eleven Italian companies, the project showcases, through materials, colours and artisanal techniques, the dialogue between innovation, manufacturing savoir-faire and design culture that defines the Made in Italy brand today.<\/p>\n

The<\/em> Italian Collection<\/em> hosts Antique Mirror, Bauce Bruno, Domos Design, Fornace Brioni, OliveLab Lighting, Sitia e Tailormade Stocco. The Italian Hospitality<\/em>\u2019 s installation includes\u00a0Antique Mirror, Artelinea,\u00a0Bauce Bruno&C., Caino Design, Domos Design, OliveLab Lighting, Relax Design,\u00a0Sicilia Intarsi, Siru, Sitia, Tailormade Stocco e Tubes.<\/p>\n

Italy\u2019s participation in Clerkenwell Design Week has been coordinated by the Italian Trade Agency since 2022 and has progressively strengthened the Italian presence within the festival over successive editions. Initially focused on promoting surface materials through the Ceramics of Italy project, the initiative later expanded into the furniture and interior design sectors. Today, it supports around forty emerging Italian companies seeking to enter the UK market, contributing to the promotion of Made in Italy and the development of new business opportunities in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n
