On 2 June 1946, Italian citizens – including, for the first time, Italian women – took part in a historic referendum and chose the Republic as the foundation of modern Italy.<\/p>\n
We celebrate the enduring values of freedom, democracy and unity that have guided our country for the past eight decades and continue to inspire Italy\u2019s commitment at home and around the world.<\/p>\n
