In London, Greenitaly discusses growth, sustainability and the impact of climate change

London hosted the latest stop of Green Agorà, a forum run by Greenitaly – International Exhibition of Horticulture and Landscape, organised by Fiere di Parma. The initiative continues its programme of dialogue with industry professionals and stakeholders, addressing the key issues shaping the future of the ornamental horticulture sector.

The event, organised by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and the Embassy of Italy in the United Kingdom at The Farmers Club in London, brought together leading figures from the UK horticultural supply chain, including landscape architects, as well as members of the specialist press.

Opening the event, Giovanni Sacchi, Director of ITA London, highlighted the UK’s continued importance as a strategic export market for Italian horticulture despite a challenging trading environment. He noted that the steady growth in exports of outdoor ornamental plants reflects the sector’s ability to meet international demand through quality and specialisation.

“ITA supports Italian companies by acting as a bridge to a market that has long appreciated garden culture and the quality of Italian products,” he said.

The Embassy also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the sector. Gabriella Manfredi, the Agricultural Attaché, emphasised the importance of ornamental horticulture as an authentic expression of the Made in Italy brand, highlighting the Embassy’s ongoing dialogue with UK institutional counterparts to facilitate trade while awaiting the implementation of the new EU–UK SPS Agreement.

During the event, Fiere di Parma presented the second edition of Greenitaly, which will take place from 7 to 9 October 2026 at the Parma Exhibition Centre.

Speakers David Richardson and Saira Ali explored global and UK market trends as well as developments in landscape architecture, while Cristina Refolo and Oliver Rock focused on contemporary landscape architecture practices in Italy.

The following day, the London Green Agorà programme continued in South Gloucestershire with a visit to the RHS Badminton Flower Show, the Royal Horticultural Society’s new flower show, held for the first time this year. The delegation also met with additional industry stakeholders, journalists and the RHS Director.

The UK: A Key Export Market for Italian Horticulture

The United Kingdom remains one of the leading export destinations for Italian ornamental horticulture, ranking sixth among international markets. In 2025, Italian exports reached €43 million, representing a 1.3% increase compared with the previous year (ISTAT foreign trade data).

Outdoor ornamental plants continue to drive exports, accounting for almost 80% of total sales to the UK. At the same time, Italy ranks as the fourth-largest supplier of horticultural products to the British market.

The composition of exports highlights the strong alignment between UK demand and one of the Italian nursery industry’s greatest strengths: outdoor ornamental plant production, which represents the core of Italy’s international offering.

“Italian ornamental horticulture continues to strengthen its position in international markets, confirming its status as one of the flagship sectors of Made in Italy. With exports exceeding €1.27 billion and a positive trade balance of around €363 million, the industry has demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth despite a challenging economic environment. Greenitaly aims to support this momentum by creating opportunities for dialogue across Europe’s key markets,” said Antonio Cellie, CEO of Fiere di Parma. “The London Green Agorà represents an important milestone for us: an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience while exploring the major transformations affecting the sector, from the impact of climate change to the evolution of sustainable landscape design.”

The London event forms part of the international promotional programme leading up to the second edition of Greenitaly, which is supported by Labirinto della Masone as Cultural Partner. The exhibition will bring together Italian and international professionals to discuss the key economic, production and commercial issues shaping the ornamental horticulture industry.

About Greenitaly

Greenitaly is the International Exhibition of Horticulture and Landscape organised by Fiere di Parma, dedicated to showcasing the entire green industry supply chain.

The exhibition brings together companies, institutions and professionals with the aim of promoting innovation, sustainability and landscape quality by connecting nursery production, landscape design, research and green culture.

Through its exhibition area, educational programme and networking events—including the Green Agorà forums—Greenitaly serves as a leading platform for the sector, fostering business opportunities, professional exchange and international market development.

About Labirinto della Masone

Labirinto della Masone is the world’s largest bamboo labyrinth, comprising more than 300,000 bamboo plants set in the countryside near Parma, in Italy’s Emilia region.

Conceived by the renowned publisher Franco Maria Ricci, the labyrinth has evolved into a unique cultural destination where nature, art and museum collections come together.
