{"id":7482,"date":"2026-07-17T17:17:47","date_gmt":"2026-07-17T15:17:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/amblondra.esteri.it\/?p=7482"},"modified":"2026-07-17T17:28:20","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T15:28:20","slug":"cessazione-della-validita-della-carta-didentita-cartacea-per-lespatrio-dal-3-agosto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amblondra.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2026\/07\/cessazione-della-validita-della-carta-didentita-cartacea-per-lespatrio-dal-3-agosto\/","title":{"rendered":"Cessazione della validit\u00e0 della carta d\u2019identit\u00e0 cartacea per l\u2019espatrio dal 3 agosto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From 3 August 2026 the paper version of Italian identity cards (<em>Carta d&#8217;Identit\u00e0 Cartacea, CIC<\/em>) will no longer be valid for international travel, irrespective of the expiry date indicated on them.<\/p>\n<p>Legislative Decree no. 108 of 26\/06\/2026 introduced the following amendments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Paper identity cards that have not yet expired will still be accepted as a form of identification by the Italian public administration and bodies that provide public services, including consulates;<\/li>\n<li>In emergencies, Italian municipalities (<em>comuni<\/em>) can issue a temporary identity document for international travel. This document is valid for a maximum of 6 months and cannot be renewed. It may not be accepted outside Italy (see entry requirements on\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.viaggiaresicuri.it\/home\">Viaggiare Sicuri<\/a> website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Contact <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/it\/ministero\/struttura\/laretediplomatica\/\">your nearest consulate<\/a> to find out how to obtain the new Electronic Identity Card (<em>Carta d&#8217;Identit\u00e0 Elettronica, CIE<\/em>). Special appointments are available for those who do not have any other documents.<\/p>\n<p>Italians residing abroad (registered with AIRE) are also able to request the Electronic Identity Card at any Italian municipality (<em>comune<\/em>), as specified in Law no. 11 of 19\/01\/2026.
