The information below is based on the Ordinance adopted on 9 January 2021<\/strong>, along with the provisions of the Ordinances of 20 December 2020 and of 23 December 2020.<\/p>\n

ENTERING ITALY: TRAVELLERS WHO STAYED IN OR TRANSITED THROUGH THE UK<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Ordinance of 9 January 2021 provides entry into Italy is not allowed to those who stayed in or transited through the UK in the previous 14 days.<\/p>\n

If you have stayed in\/transited through the UK in the previous 14 days, entry into Italy is permitted only under the following conditions and provided that no COVID-19 symptoms are observed<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

a) Entry is allowed to those who have been registered as resident in Italy<\/strong> since before 23 December 2020 or<\/strong> in cases of absolute necessity<\/strong>. Written declaration of the fact must be provided.<\/p>\n

b) In order to enter Italy, travellers must present to the airline or other carrier, at the time of embarcation, and to the relevant authorities upon request, proof of a negative molecular or antigen swab test taken in the 72 hours preceding entry into Italy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

c) Another molecular or antigen swab test must be taken upon arrival<\/strong>. If possible, it should be taken at the airport, port or border; if not, it should be taken at the local health centre within 48 hours of entering Italy. For passengers arriving on direct flights from the UK, the second test must be carried out at the airport<\/strong> upon arrival.<\/p>\n

d) Irrespective of the result of the test, travellers must self-isolate for 14 days<\/strong> and must monitor their health<\/strong>, as per art. 7, section 1, letter c), of the Prime Ministerial Decree of 3 December 2020. They must also notify the Department of Prevention of the local health authority of their arrival in the country.<\/p>\n

Entry into Italy will continue to be prohibited for those who do not meet the criteria indicated in letter a) above<\/strong>, as per the Ordinances of 9 January 2021 and 20 December 2020.<\/p>\n

Provided that no COVID-19 symptoms are observed, the crew and travelling staff working in the transport of people and goods<\/strong> are not subject<\/strong> to the provisions of the Ordinances, as listed above. However, they are still required to undergo a molecular or antigen swab test upon arrival<\/strong> at the airport, port or border, where possible, or within 48 hours of entering Italy at the local health authority, and to provide a written declaration as per art. 7 of the Prime Ministerial Decree of 3 December 2020.<\/p>\n

There are no other exceptions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

TRAVELLING TO THE UK<\/strong><\/p>\n

As of 23 December 2020, the UK was moved to List E until 15 January 2021, with the possibility of extension. This means that travel from Italy to the UK is permitted only for work<\/strong>, health<\/strong>, study<\/strong> or emergency<\/strong>, or to return home<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
