It will remain\u00a0valid for travel abroad. This means that\u00a0citizens aged 70 or over, whose CIE was issued on or after 30 July 2026, will no longer be required to renew their identity card periodically.<\/p>\n<p>This was established by Italian Ministry of the Interior <a href=\"https:\/\/amblondra.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/12044292circ-dait-060-servdemo-24-07-2026.pdf\">Circular No. 15483 of 24 July 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The above Circular clarifiesthat the card&#8217;s unlimited validity <strong>does not apply<\/strong> in the following cases:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Digital identification using the Electronic Identity Card<\/strong>. This\u00a0will continue to be subject to the standard <strong>10-year validity period<\/strong>. Citizens aged 70 or over will therefore need to renew their card when the 10-year period expires\u00a0if they\u00a0wish to continue accessing online public services using their Electronic Identity Car.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Automated e-gates in airports.<\/strong>\u00a0In this case too,the Electronic Identity Card will remain valid for <strong>10 years<\/strong>.
