{"id":768,"date":"2020-11-11T11:32:40","date_gmt":"2020-11-11T10:32:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/amblondra.esteri.it\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2020\/11\/l-ambasciata-d-italia-a-londra_2-2\/"},"modified":"2020-11-11T11:32:40","modified_gmt":"2020-11-11T10:32:40","slug":"l-ambasciata-d-italia-a-londra_2-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amblondra.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2020\/11\/l-ambasciata-d-italia-a-londra_2-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Science for Society &#8211; The price of technological progress (17th November)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Scientific Office<\/strong> of the <strong>Italian Embassy in London<\/strong> is delighted to present on Tuesday November 17th the <strong>7th Science for Society event<\/strong> titled \u201cThe price of technological progress&#8221;, organised in collaboration with Zadig, on the occasion of the 3rd Italian Research Day in the World 2020.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The webinar will be opened by the <strong>Ambassador of Italy<\/strong> to the United Kingdom <strong>Raffaele Trombetta<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The speakers are the epidemiologist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/people\/p.vineis\"><strong>Paolo Vineis<\/strong><\/a> (<strong>Imperial College London<\/strong>), the physicist\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leonardocompany.com\/en\/about-us\/management\/roberto-cingolani\"><strong>Roberto Cingolani<\/strong><\/a> (Leonardo Company) and the journalist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scienzainrete.it\/autori\/carra\/202\"><strong>Luca Carra<\/strong><\/a> (<strong>Scienza in Rete<\/strong>), who are the authors of the book \u201c<strong>Prevenire. Manifesto per una tecnopolitica<\/strong>\u201d (Einaudi, 2020).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The technical progress that has developed alongside our civilisation for over ten thousand years has <strong>improved our quality of life,<\/strong> <strong>given us hope<\/strong>, and turned <strong>Homo sapiens into the dominant species on the planet<\/strong>. But now the bill has arrived in the form of three debts: socioeconomic (in the form of <strong>inequality<\/strong>), environmental (<strong>climate change, pollution, reduction of biodiversity<\/strong>) and cognitive (the <strong>aspects of the modern infosphere<\/strong>). The coronavirus pandemic is one aspect of these debts that we are seeing develop in real time.
