{"id":8039,"date":"2026-10-26T13:19:24","date_gmt":"2026-10-26T12:19:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/amblondra.esteri.it\/?p=8039"},"modified":"2026-10-26T13:19:24","modified_gmt":"2026-10-26T12:19:24","slug":"italy-elected-to-category-a-of-the-iopc-funds-executive-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amblondra.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2026\/10\/italy-elected-to-category-a-of-the-iopc-funds-executive-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"Italy Elected to Category A of the IOPC Funds\u2019 Executive Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>London, 25 October 2026 &#8211; The Italian Representation participated in the meetings of the Governing Bodies of the <span class=\"l4jgb5 l4jln8\"><strong><span class=\"l4jln8\" data-sdui-anchor-id=\"commentary-P3J44p2UtkXNqWSva4oKNHtk3WIcMlJmOMV5gcGBE1o-def43f5e-a109-4d57-b22d-5051340fffa5::132\">International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC Funds)<\/span><\/strong><\/span>, contributing to discussions on key issues concerning the international regime for compensation for oil pollution damage.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions addressed incidents involving the IOPC Funds, efforts to combat the shadow fleet, and the importance of advancing the ratification of the HNS Convention (Hazardous and Noxious Substances Convention), a significant step towards strengthening the international framework governing liability and compensation for damage arising from the maritime transport of hazardous and noxious substances.<\/p>\n<p>During the session, the composition of the Executive Committee was also renewed. Italy was elected to Category A, alongside the Republic of Korea, India, Japan, Spain, Thailand and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>Italy welcomes the outcome of the elections and looks forward to contributing actively to the work of the Executive Committee, in support of the effective functioning of the IOPC Funds and the continued strengthening of the international compensation regime.<\/p>\n<p>The Italian Representation warmly congratulates Mr <span class=\"l4jgb5 l4jln8\"><strong><span class=\"l4jln8\" data-sdui-anchor-id=\"commentary-P3J44p2UtkXNqWSva4oKNHtk3WIcMlJmOMV5gcGBE1o-def43f5e-a109-4d57-b22d-5051340fffa5::1231\">Gaute Sivertsen<\/span><\/strong><\/span> on his re-election as Director of the IOPC Funds, wishing him every success in continuing to lead the organisation and advance its important mandate.<\/p>\n<p>Italy also extends its sincere congratulations to Cyprus, Germany, India, Japan, Namibia and the Republic of Korea on the election of their respective candidates to the Joint Audit Body of the IOPC Funds.
