﻿{"id":945,"date":"2019-04-16T19:00:36","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T17:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/amblondra.esteri.it\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2019\/04\/giornata-della-ricerca-italiana-2\/"},"modified":"2019-04-16T19:00:36","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T17:00:36","slug":"giornata-della-ricerca-italiana-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amblondra.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2019\/04\/giornata-della-ricerca-italiana-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Italian Research Day: three UK-based Italian researchers present their work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Embassy of Italy and the Association of Italian Scientists in the UK hold a presentation of projects carried out by Italian researchers with the support of the European Research Council<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over 116 events were held by the Italian diplomatic network in 78 countries to mark the second edition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/mae\/en\/politica_estera\/cooperscientificatecnologica\/giornata-della-ricerca-italiana\/giornata-della-ricerca-italiana-nel-mondo-15-aprile-2019.html\"><strong>Italian Research Day in the World<\/strong><\/a> on 15 April, coinciding with <strong>Leonardo Da Vinci<\/strong>\u2019s birthday. The day celebrates the contributions of Italian researchers to international science and helps disseminate their findings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Italian Research Day was celebrated in London with an event entitled <strong><em>Capitalism, Stem Cells and Graphene: three examples of excellent research in the UK funded by the European Research Council<\/em><\/strong>, held at the Italian Cultural Institute and organised in collaboration with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aisuk.org\/\" title=\"website of the Association of Italian Scientists in UK (external site)\"><strong>Association of Italian Scientists in the UK<\/strong><\/a> (AISUK).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ambassador, <strong>Raffaele Trombetta<\/strong>, gave an opening address in which he thanked those present for their support and AISUK for its valuable work and complimented the three researchers. He noted that the UK has a large community of Italian researchers (some 2,800 of them are registered on the database kept by the embassy\u2019s scientific attach\u00e9, <strong>Dr Luisa Tondelli<\/strong>). He also read out a <a href=\"resource\/doc\/2019\/04\/dichiarazione_pdr_15_aprile.pdf\" title=\"download statement by President Mattarella (PDF in Italian)\"><strong>statement from<\/strong> <strong>Sergio Mattarella<\/strong><\/a>, the Italian president, expressing appreciation for the role of Italian researchers around the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After an introduction by Prof. <strong>Antonio Guarino<\/strong>, the head of AISUK, the three Italian researchers, who had been awarded grants by the <strong>European Research Council<\/strong> (ERC), presented their projects, which had been carried out at British universities: <em>Comparing Early Modern Europe Varieties of Capitalism<\/em> by Prof. <strong>Maria Fusaro<\/strong> (University of Exeter); <em>Applications of Graphene and Related Materials<\/em> by Prof. <strong>Andrea Ferrari<\/strong> (University of Cambridge); and <em>Epithelial Stem Cells for Regenerative Medicine<\/em> by Prof. <strong>Paola Bonfanti<\/strong>, group leader at the Francis Crick institute.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Italian Research Day offered an opportunity to highlight the recent launch of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.innovitalia.net\/\"><strong>Innovitalia 3.0<\/strong><\/a>, a recently launched platform for Italian researchers based abroad.
