OFFICE OF THE MARITIME ATTACHÉ – VICARIOUS PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE TO IMO
The Maritime Office follows the work of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the UN agency specialising in matters of safety and security of global shipping, maritime personnel, protection of the marine environment from pollution and piracy. The office also follows the work of the International Oil Pollution Compensation (IOPC) Funds, which deal with compensation following oil spills at sea, and the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO), which contributes to the safety of seafarers and passengers throughout the world, supervising the satellite suppliers of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).
