Ambassador of Italy visits Leicester and inaugurates new Anglo-Italian laboratory

The Ambassador of Italy to the UK, Pasquale Terracciano, visited the University Hospitals of Leicester yesterday to attend the opening of the “Optimed ID Unit Dose Laboratory“. This laboratory is an innovative structure, resulting from a partnership between Leicester’s Hospitals and Italian company Ingegneria Biomedica Santa Lucia (IBSL), which allows for increased accuracy in drug delivery to patients and significant cost reduction for the hospital.

Ambassador Terracciano attended the ceremony for the opening of the laboratory, whose completion is both a mark of Italian excellence in this specific medical sector and also the result of fruitful cooperation between Italy and the UK. Bruno Giglio (CEO of IBSL), John Adler (Chief Executive at Leicester’s Hospitals), Karamijit Sing (CBE Chairman at Leicester’s Hospitals) and other representatives of IBSL also attended the ceremony.

Following the visit to the laboratory of the UHL Hospital Group, Ambassador Terracciano visited the University of Leicester, where he was welcomed by Simona Storchi PhD, Director of the Department of Italian Studies.
