The Italian Cultural Institute in London opens itself to the world with new Director Marco Delogu

On 10 July, Marco Delogu officially takes charge as the new Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in London. Delogu, the first ever photographer to be appointed Head of an Italian Cultural Institute, has declared on many occasions his desire to include innovative ways of promoting “classical and contemporary Italian culture” activities during his tenure.

London will play a fundamental role during the new course: it includes more than 130 different nationalities, which the Institute will want to positively engage with”, declared Delogu. The new Director will work with every cultural shade, with writers, artists, academics, directors, musicians, and many other people from the world of culture, giving voice also to the lesser known people representing contemporary Italy.

Italian photography will clearly assume a crucial position: it will be promoted through a renewed dialogue with cultural and academic institutions. Delogu intends to take “the Institute outside the walls of the Institute”, enriching the already vast calendar of in-house events, with new collaborations which present Italian culture in an innovative way to a wider and more diverse audience.

As far as photography is concerned, Delogu has worked on important projects with representatives of British culture: Don McCullin, Martin Parr, David Spero, Gerry Badger, the writer Geoff Dyer, the historian David Forgacs, Simon Roberts, Leonie Hampton, David Chandler, Paul Graham, and many more. He has founded  “FotoGrafia – The International Festival in Rome”, of which he is the Artistic Director, as well as directing Capalbio Fotografia and the publishing house “Punctum”.
