The Italian Ambassador in London, Pasquale Terracciano will attend tonight’s launch of the exhibition “Missoni Art Colour”, at the Fashion and Textile Museum which will open to the public from 6 May until 4 September 2016.
The exhibition is organised by the Museo di Arte contemporanea di Gallarate (MA*GA), in collaboration with Missoni, is pursuing to explore the influence of twentieth century European art on the sketches and designs by Ottavio and Rosita Missoni. It includes over forty paintings from other European artists, such as Gino Severino, Lucio Fontana, Benedetto Vedova and Sonia Delaunay, names which have always influenced the creative process of Missoni design. Many of the works on display come from the MA*GA and private collections and are being presented to the public for the first time. In addition to a selection of paintings, the visual experience of the exhibition is enhanced by colourful tapestries, textile studies and gowns.
As underscord by Celia Jocey, Director of the Fashion and Textile Museum, during a press conference this morning, “Missoni Art Colour” is the first exhibition to celebrate the iconic Missoni fashion house in the United Kingdom on such a large scale, enhancing the profound global impact of this Italian brand.
