Milan and London share common interests and vocations which the Mayor of Milan wished to address and expand on during his visit to the British capital today.

Mayor Giuseppe Sala met with newly-elected counterpart, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, and exchanged views with him on the future of the respective cities. The themes discussed were: environmental sustainability, regenerating the peripheries of the “multicentre city” – and learning from the success of London with a view to capitalising on the particularly positive moment that Milan is experiencing.

In the aftermath of the referendum on the UK’s relation with the EU, Milan is exploring all opportunities that the “post Brexit” might possibly offer. In this context, a series of meetings took place, organised by the Embassy of Italy in London, with investors and financial operators of the ‘City’, as well as with the presidents of the EBA and EMA, respectively, Andrea Enria and Guido Rasi.

During a press conference concluding his visit, Mayor Sala stressed that “Milan, one of the cities in Europe with the highest standards of living, is a candidate for the possible relocation of the European Banking Authority (EBA), and the European Medicines Agency (EMA), thanks to its excellent infrastructure, 10 universities, investments aiming to further bolster the post-Expo area and a real estate market which is in full recovery”.
