Giuseppe Kito Fusai is awarded the decoration of Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia

Giuseppe Kito Fusai, a hepato-biliary surgeon and honorary senior lecturer at the Royal Free Hospital NHS Trust in London, was made a Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia (Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy) yesterday. The decoration was presented to him by Ambassador Pasquale Terracciano in the name of Sergio Mattarella, the Italian president.

Dr Fusai moved to the UK in 1995, becoming a fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh the following year and specialing in hepato-biliary surgery and liver transplants. Since 1999 he has worked numerous centres of excellence in various countries, including at the Nagoya University Hospital in Japan, which is renowned for its treatment of cholangiocarcinoma.

The decoration was awarded to him in recognition of his contribution to science and his role in reinforcing links Italy’s links with the Italian scientific and academic community in the UK.
