UK eVisas
As an Italian citizen living in the UK, you may have previously used a biometric residence permit (BRP) or a biometric residence card (BRC) to evidence your immigration status.
The UK Government is developing a digital immigration system, replacing physical documents with a digital record of your identity and immigration status, called an eVisa. You need a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account to access your eVisa. You can create a UKVI account now at www.gov.uk/eVisa to access your eVisa and experience the benefits – if you do not have one already.
Everyone is required to have their own UKVI account and if a child is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian should create an account for them. More information about creating a UKVI account for a child is available on GOV.UK
If you have indefinite leave to remain
If you have indefinite leave to remain (ILR), also known as settlement, and use an ink stamp or vignette in your passport to prove your rights, you can make a free No Time Limit (NTL) application to access an eVisa and benefit from a smoother experience when you travel internationally.
Keep your eVisa up to date for international travel
When travelling, most people’s immigration permission is checked digitally through their passports and travel documents – either via automated systems or using the online View and Prove service.
eVisa holders – including those with EU Settlement Scheme status – should ensure their UKVI account is kept up to date with their latest passport or travel document. Full guidance on how to do this is available on GOV.UK. This enables the UK Government to confirm to the carrier that the passenger has valid immigration permission and avoids any potential delays.
