London, 2 October 2025 – The Embassy of Italy in London hosted the press conference presenting the 2025–2026 season of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, attended by Managing and Artistic Director Fortunato Ortombina.
In his opening remarks, the Italian Ambassador Inigo Lambertini emphasised that La Scala is not only one of the world’s most prestigious opera houses, but also a symbol of Italian cultural identity—a place where tradition and innovation have met for almost 250 years. “The history of Teatro alla Scala is intertwined with that of Italy itself, reflecting creativity, resilience, and passion,” the Ambassador stated.
The press conference was also an opportunity to highlight the close cooperation between Teatro alla Scala and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, which supports scholarships for international students enrolled in the Master’s programs in Performing Arts at the Accademia della Scala. This joint commitment aims to train new generations of artists and promote Italian excellence in the world of music and theatre.
Managing and Artistic Director Fortunato Ortombina gave the London audience a preview of the upcoming season, which will include masterpieces of the great repertoire, new productions, and innovative interpretations—further proof of opera’s vitality as an art form capable of engaging with contemporary society.
“This presentation in London,” the Ambassador stressed, “strengthens the cultural dialogue between Italy and the United Kingdom, reminding us that the arts are an essential part of diplomacy: they create connections, build mutual understanding, and offer a shared space of beauty and imagination.”
