Naples, July 2, 2025 – On board the Coast Guard vessel Nave Diciotti, moored in the port of Naples, the third edition of the Maritime Symposium took place under the title “Environmental Protection & Safety-Security at Sea.” The event served as an important opportunity to discuss maritime safety, marine environmental protection, and the sustainable development of the sector.
During the event, Ambassador Inigo Lambertini presented the first Annual Report of the Permanent Representation. The report outlines the main activities carried out over the past year in support of national interests at the three international organizations based in London, offering an overview of the challenges faced and the results achieved.
“As Italy’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC Funds), and the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO), I wish to highlight our country’s active and ongoing contribution in shaping a maritime future that is safer, more sustainable, and more efficient,” said the Ambassador aboard Nave Diciotti.
The event was attended by representatives of the Italian shipping industry, maritime sector stakeholders, members of major Italian shipowners’ associations, as well as representatives of foreign organizations operating in the sector.
The work of the Italian Delegation at the IMO, IMSO, and IOPC Funds was presented by Giuseppe Spera, Deputy Representative to the IMO, IOPC Funds, and IMSO, who emphasized Italy’s leading role in international regulatory processes concerning navigation safety, environmental protection, and the adoption of new technologies in maritime transport.
During the meeting, there was also a call for greater participation and active involvement of Italian shipowners’ associations in the process of defining national positions and representation in multilateral forums, in order to further enhance the private sector’s contribution to the development of international maritime policies.
The initiative received strong interest and unanimous appreciation, confirming its role as an essential platform for dialogue among institutions, industry players, and the international community in promoting safety and sustainability in the maritime sector.
