Paolo Gentiloni, Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, took part today in the first meeting of the Small Group of the Global Coalition to counter Daesh, which was attended by the foreign ministers of the twenty-one most active countries in the coalition.
Some of the topics discussed during the working sessions (co-chaired by US Secretary of State John Jerry and by his British counterpart Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond) included: the military campaign which is currently underway to counter Daesh, the tools to block the sources of financing which are funding the fighters under its control, strategic communication and humanitarian aid in the region. The establishment of an advisory group aimed at defining shared political approaches and tools for action, were among the objectives of the meeting which form the strategy to counter Daesh.
Before taking part in the talks at Lancaster House, where the delegations of the involved countries gathered, Minister Gentiloni met representatives of the London-based Italian press, to provide them with information regarding Italy’s participation in today’s meeting of the Small Group of the Global Coalition to counter Daesh.
