The twentieth edition of the Seminar for the British media took place in Venice on 30-31 January 2015 at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
The Venice Seminar offers an opportunity for opinion makers of the British press to become acquainted with the latest trends in Italian foreign, economic, and domestic policies, introduced by representatives of the Italian Government, and of the Italian economic and industrial realities. The meetings take place in an informal setting, based on the “Chatham House Rule”.
At the presence of over 40 journalists, the Ambassador of Italy to the United Kingdom, Pasquale Q. Terracciano, opened the working session, which was structured in three panels:
-The first centred on economic matters, was introduced by the Chancellor of Ca’ Foscari, Prof. Michele Bugliesi, and featured talks by Paolo Gentiloni MP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Claudio Descalzi, CEO of the Italian energy group eni.
-The second one, which focused on “Reform process in Italy: justice reform to improve the business environment”, saw Andrea Orlando MP, Minister of Justice, as key note speaker, Prof. Carlo Carraro and Mario P. Chiti, Professor of European Administrative at the University of Florence, as discussants.
-The third one, focused on “Reform Process in Italy: Labour market reform for competitiveness and growth”, was highlighted by a dialogue between Giuliano Poletti, Minister for Labour and Social Policy, Giovanni Soccodato, Finmeccanica Vice-President for EVP strategy, Marketing and Business Development, and Tommaso Nannicini, Professor of Political Economy at Bocconi University and Economic Adviser to the Italian Prime Minister.
