Roundtable on women’s enterprise organised by the Italian Embassy in London

Positive outlook on the role of women in business and focus on a more sustainable economic growth

These are some of the key points discussed at today’s roundtable organised by the Italian Embassy on the role of women entrepreneurs in business, which provided the opportunity for an exchange of views on matters relevant to the sector.

The roundtable, which took place as a working breakfast on the initiative of Ambassador Pasquale Terracciano, saw the participation of Ornella Barra, Executive Vice President at Walgreens Boots Alliance and guest of honour of the event, who presented her professional experience to her fellow entrepreneurs.

Prof. Lucrezia Reichlin, Professor of Economics at the London Business School, moderated roundtable discussion, which was attended by around twenty female entrepreneurs who representative a wide range of activities in both the traditional and emerging economy. Participants shared their personal experiences and, among other topics, discussed good practice and the challenges that women entrepreneurs have to face in their daily professional activities.

Overall, an optimistic view of the near future emerged from the discussion, given that women, who are increasingly becoming protagonists in several sectors including the business world, are creating models of business which best suit the emerging markets thanks to their enhanced sustainability and greater consideration for ethical implications compared to the past.  Moreover, this trend is also taking place in the Italian family business model, in which women are increasingly occupying responsibility roles.
