Roberto Battiston, President of the Italian Space Agency interviewed by journalists at the Farnborough trade event.
The Farnborough Airshow (11-17 of July) is a biennial event that combines a major trade exhibition for the aerospace and defence industries with a public airshow. It showcases the most advanced scientific and technical innovations applied to flying: civil and commercial aviation, defence, aerospace technology and aeronautics. Italy has an important presence with a pavilion coordinated by the Italian Trade Agency (ICE). Stands from the principal air-space companies are present alongside a large pavilion of the Leonardo Group (formerly Finmeccanica).
Today, on the occasion of the opening of what is one of the greatest international fairs of the aeronautical-defence sector, the Minister of Education and Research Sen. Stefania Giannini, the President of the Italian Space Agency (ASI) Roberto Battiston, and the Italian Defence Committee of the Italian Parliament led by its Head, Hon. Francesco Saverio Garofani, visited the Italian pavilions. The Presidents of the Lombardia and Lazio regions, respectively Roberto Maroni and Nicola Zingaretti were also present.
The Italian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Pasquale Terracciano, visited the Leonardo – Finmeccanica pavilion during a presentation during which CEO Mauro Moretti presented, among other things, the name change of the multinational Group. Mr. Moretti stated that the change is “more than just a name” and that it goes hand in hand with a thorough reorganisation of the Group. Among the multiple new developments announced by the Leonardo CEO is a collaboration project between the Italian agglomerate and a British university, for the launch of a new space mission, which will be announced tomorrow, 12 July.
