Maserati and Giovanni Soldini: celebrating two Italian standard-bearers at the Italian embassy

An evening with Giovanni Soldini”, held at the Embassy of Italy in London on 15 June, brought together two Italian standard-bearers in the automotive and nautical fields: Maserati and the Milanese skipper Giovanni Soldini.

This was Soldini’s second visit to London since February, when he broke the record for the “Tea Route” between Hong Kong and London by over five days, on the Maserati trimaran Multi 70. Their excellent preparation and a boat that was, in Soldini’s words, “technically perfect” allowed the team to set a record that was officially declared by the World Sail Speed Record Council to be 36 days, 2 hours, 37 minutes and 2 seconds; the vessels that carried tea along the same route in the 19th century took almost three times as long.

In his opening address, the ambassador, Raffaele Trombetta, said that Soldini and Maserati represent the best of Italy on the world stage and that no record can be broken so cleanly without great resistance and a constant striving for perfection.

Mike Biscoe, the CEO of Maserati GB, said that Soldini, who has over 25 years of experience in nautical competitions, had been a partner of Maserati since 2013.
