Professor Marco Liviero was made a knight of the Order of the Star of Italy (Cavaliere OSI) yesterday, 7 June 2018, in recognition of his work to promote Anglo-Italian relations. The decoration was awarded by the Italian ambassador, Raffaele Trombetta, on behalf of the Italian president.
Liviero has dedicated his professional life to building solid links between the British and Italian academic communities. After gaining a degree in English Literature at the University of Padua, he completed his doctorate in Renaissance Literature at the University of Birmingham, and it was here that he embarked on his exceptional journey in the world of British academia. He has taught at University College, Cork, in Ireland; at Cheltenham College and the King’s School in Canterbury; and at Eton College, one of the oldest and most prestigious schools in the UK.
In addition to his successes in the world of academia, Liviero has distinguished himself for his cultural activism. A widely acclaimed expert in Renaissance literature and Anglo-Irish poetry and theatre, he has been involved in over 50 theatre productions and has given talks around the world, in Europe, the United States, Asia and Australia.
