Mission of the Italian Ambassador to Wales

Ambassador Raffaele Trombetta was in Wales this weekend, where he met local government officials and members of the Italian community and visited the factories of two Italian companies that are leaders in their respective sectors: Prysmian Cables, a cable manufacturer in Aberdare, and Reflexallen, a manufacturer of vehicle components, whose plant in Bodelwyddan specialises in the design and manufacture of hydraulic tubes and electric cables.

In the meeting with Hannah Blythyn, the deputy minister for housing and local government, attended by representatives of Italian businesses, the ambassador discussed opportunities for collaboration in the sectors of renewable energy, green tech, the circular economy and advanced manufacturing, with a particular focus on industrial automation and technological innovation.

In the meeting with the Italian community in Wales (which has approximately 6,300 members) the ambassador discussed the situation following Brexit and explained the initiatives run by the embassy and the consulate general in London to support Italian citizens. He highlighted the importance of registering with the EU Settlement Scheme and notifying the consulate and embassy of any issues arising.

The ambassador ended his visit to Wales by attending a performance of Verdi’s Sicilian Vespers by the Welsh National Opera, conducted by Carlo Rizzi, the final part of the WNO’s trilogy dedicated to the composer.
