Covid-19 – The search for effective therapies: where are we?

On Tuesday 23 June the embassy will present its second Science for Society webinar on the pandemic, part of the #ItalyRestArt series, entitled “Covid-19: The search for effective therapies: where are we?

The speakers will be Prof. Guido Rasi, executive director of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and Prof. Sergio Bonini of the Translational Pharmacology Institute (IFT), the National Research Council and the embassy’s scientific board. The event will be opened by Ambassador Raffaele Trombetta.

The discussion will be moderated by Luisa Tondelli, the embassy’s science attaché, and Kito Fusai, the head of the Italian Medical Society of Great Britain (IMSoGB).

Following the emergence of the covid-19 pandemic, there has been a huge effort around the world by biomedical researchers and clinical professionals. The speakers will discuss the evolution of the situation and the measures taken to reduce the negative impact of the pandemic. They will also look at the limits and potential of current and future clinical trials and will discuss how the European Medicines Agency has responded in the search for more effective therapies.

The webinar will begin at 17:00 UK time and will be held in English.
