A ceremony to honour Italians who fell in the First and Second World Wars was held on Sunday 8 November at Brookwood military cemetery. It was attended by representatives of UK-based institutions.
The importance of the ceremony was such that it went ahead in spite of the pandemic restrictions, although safety guidelines were observed.
It was presided over by Ambassador Raffaele Trombetta and was also attended by the Consul General, Marco Villani, and the Defence Attaché, General Enrico Pederzolli.
The commemoration began with flag-raising, a symbol of national identity and unity. Ambassador Trombetta then laid two wreaths, one on behalf of the many Italian civilian and military associations in the UK and the other donated by the American Battle Monuments Commission, as a tribute to the fallen.
The event was a tangible sign of the union between past and present and testament to the commitment of the men and women in uniform and to serving defending our country.
