THE NETWORK OF SCIENTIFIC ATTACHÉS
The Unit for Scientific and Technological Cooperation (UCST), which is part of the Directorate General for Country Promotion (DGSP) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) aims to promote the diffusion of science and Italian technology abroad using a network of scientific experts (appointed under art. 168 of the Presidential Decree 18/1967), most of whom are chosen among people who have previously held public office in Italy. Scientific Attachés work for the strengthening of scientific and technological cooperation between countries and they organize activities in support of the actions carried out by Universities, Research and Business Entities. In addition to promoting the excellence of the Italian research system in the country in which they work and in the international accreditation organizations, the Attachés also act as a point of reference for both inter-institutional dialogue and the active Italian scientific community on the ground.
THE SCIENTIFIC OFFICE IN LONDON
The work to promote Italian research in the United Kingdom – carried out by the Office – is conducted jointly with other institutional actors such as the Italian Cultural Institute, the Italian Trade Agency and representatives of enterprises, institutions, Italian organizations and associations of Italian nationals in the UK who have a prevalent academic and/or research interest.
The Scientific Office of the Embassy maintains relations with the Italian scientific community in the UK.
Are you an Italian academic or researcher in the UK? Sign up to the Database of the Scientific Office.
We want also to mention the role of AISUK, ‘Association of the Italian Scientists in the UK’, an association that promotes interaction among Italian scientists working in the UK.
THE SCIENTIFIC COUNCIL OF THE EMBASSY
The Scientific Attaché, in collaboration with the Head of Mission, renewed in Spring 2019 the “Scientific Council of the Embassy” (CSA), made up of 18 Italian researchers who work in the British scientific and technological world. The CSA was set up to give advice on the Embassy Scientific Office’s activity programs, to cooperate in identifying British interest partners, to provide support in the selection of “Italy Made Me” prizes, as well as to foster and accelerate interactions with the UK researchers’ community.
