THE NETWORK OF SCIENTIFIC ATTACHÉS

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation promotes the work of Italian scientists and researchers abroad through a network of scientific experts, most of whom have previously held public office in Italy. These scientific attachés work to strengthen scientific and technological cooperation between countries, overseeing initiatives to support the work of universities, researchers and businesses. In addition to raising the profile of the Italian research system in the country in which they work and in international accreditation organisations, the attachés also act as a point of reference for both inter-institutional dialogue and the local Italian scientific community.

THE SCIENTIFIC OFFICE IN LONDON

The Office promotes Italian research in the United Kingdom in collaboration with other institutional actors such as the Italian Cultural Institute, the Italian Trade Agency and representatives of enterprises, institutions, Italian organisations and associations of Italian nationals in the UK with academic or research interests.

The Embassy’s Scientific Office maintains relations with the Italian scientific community in the UK.

Are you an Italian academic or researcher in the UK? Sign up to the Database of the Scientific Office.

The Office also collaborates with the Association of the Italian Scientists in the UK (AISUK), an association that promotes interaction among Italian scientists working in the UK.

THE SCIENTIFIC COUNCIL OF THE EMBASSY

The Scientific Attaché, in collaboration with the Head of Mission, appoints the Scientific Council of the Embassy (CSA), made up of 18 Italian researchers who work in the British scientific and technological world. The CSA, which was last renewed in the spring of 2019, was set up to give advice on the Scientific Office’s programme of activities, help identify British partners, assist with selecting the winners of the “Italy Made Me” prizes, and to foster and accelerate interactions with the UK research community.
