La Biennale di Venezia presented the 15th International Architecture Exhibition during a press conference which took place today at the Italian Cultural Institute in London.

La Biennale President Paolo Baratta and the curator, Architect Alejandro Aravena, introduced the programme of the exhibition, which centres on the theme “Reporting from the front”.

The 15th International Architecture Exhibition will take place at the Giardini and the Arsenale, in Venice, and will open to the public from Saturday May 28th to Sunday November 27th 2016. It will include 62 National Participations (from 48 countries).

The press conference to preview this year’s International Architecture Exhibition was the first one to take place abroad and was introduced by the director of the Italian Institute of Culture, Marco Delogu, who welcomed the representatives from La Biennale and also gave a preview on other upcoming events at the Institute which also relate to architecture.

While talking about the 15th International Architecture Exhibition, President Baratta described the image which was chosen to represent it: a photograph by Bruce Chatwin in which a lady stands on a ladder in a desert gazing at the horizon, and in doing so conquers the so-called “expanded eye”. According to the President of La Biennale and to the curator, this image is representative of “La Biennale as a whole”.

The curator, Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena, explained to the public the main objectives of the current Exhibition, its charactersitics and took part in a lively Q&A session.

Following today’s launch press conference in London, the Venice Biennale will also present the 15th International Architecture Exhibition in Paris, Berlin, New York and Santiago.
