European Union, migration and interparliamentary relationships – the main topics on the agenda during Hon. Boldrini’s two-day visit

Speaker of the Italian Chamber of Deputies Laura Boldrini met with the Leader of the Commons Chris Grayling and the Speakers, respectively of the House of Lords and the House of Commons, Baroness Frances D’Souza and John Bercow.

Following the meetings at the Parliament, Hon. Boldrini met with Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Opposition.

The first day of Hon. Boldrini’s visit came to a close with her keynote speech for the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence annual lecture at King’s College on “Greater European integration: the only way forward”. Hon. Boldrini focused on migration issues and called for a greater upholding of the fundamental European values, namely, respect for human rights and dignity, in front of an audience which included students, academics, diplomats, think tank researchers and British institutional representatives.

During the second day of her visit, the Speaker of the Italian Chamber of Deputies gave an interview centred on the theme of migration to BBC World News GMT.

Hon. Boldrini’s visit concluded with a working lunch, at the Italian Embassy in London, which saw the participation of professional Italian women who are based in the United Kingdom and have become successful in their fields of expertise.
