Minister for Constitutional Reforms Maria Elena Boschi in London and Oxford to present the progress of institutional reforms in Italy

Maria Elena Boschi, Minister for Constitutional Reforms, opened today’s session of the London Stock Exchange together with its CEO Nikhil Rathi. Afterwards the Minister took part in a round table with entrepreneurs and business executives during which she discussed the improved economic outlook which has been brought about by the Italian government.

Later, the Minister met her British counterpart, John Penrose, Minister for Constitutional Reforms at the Cabinet Office, with whom she discussed progress of institutional reforms in their respective countries, exchanging views and thoughts on best practices.

Maria Elena Boschi intervened later at the House of Commons, in front of an audience which included MPs, academics, representatives of think tanks and members of the Italian community. The talk at the UK Parliament, was introduced by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. John Bercow, and offered a chance to point out key aspects of the Constitutional Reform process in Italy, specifically at the eve of the final vote on the Constitutional Reforms Bill, which is expected to take place tomorrow at the Italian Chambers of Deputies.

Following her talk at the House of Commons, Minister Boschi met with Zanny Minton Beddoes, Editor-in-Chief of The Economist and several of the weekly’s opinion writers, whom she briefed on the state of reforms in Italy.

Minister Boschi’s visit came to a close when she gave a talk on “Institutional changes in Italy: two reforms that make the difference” at the prestigious Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford. Sir Ivor Roberts, the Dean of Trinity College and former British Ambassador in Rome from 2003 to 2006, introduced her to the audience.

As a testament to the importance of cultural exchange between Italy and the United Kingdom, Minister Boschi visited In the Age of Giorgione at the Royal Academy of Arts. It is one of several high-level exhibitions on Italian art taking place this year in London.
