Fundraising for the Italian School in London (SIAL) with guest of honour Giovanni Allevi: over £50m raised

A gala dinner was hosted yesterday evening by the Embassy of Italy to raise funds for the Italian School in London (SIAL), the only school in London that teaches the Italian curriculum. The school was founded as a private initiative and was inaugurated in 2010. It was subsequently accredited by both the Italian and the British governments. The guest of honour at the dinner, the pianist Giovanni Allevi, performed four of his famous pieces, to the delight of the guests. The event raised over £50,000.

A number of important developments were announced at the dinner, including the opening of a middle school next academic year. Just a few months ago Ambassador Pasquale Terracciano inaugurated the school’s new premises, right next to the original premises in Holland Park. The move to a bigger building was made possible by donations of over £1.5m by private donors in a fundraising drive organised by the Ambassador.

The evening was opened by Mrs Karen Terracciano, who highlighted the importance of the school’s work for a growing community of Italians in London. Minister Vincenzo Celeste, the deputy head of mission, presented the Knight of the Star of Italy (Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia) to Raffaella Celia, the vice president of the school’s board of directors, on behalf of the President of the Italian Republic.
