Visiting London on 29-30 June, Chiara Appendino, the mayor of Turin, presented a city of opportunity, one that has undergone a radical transformation from an industrial centre to a dynamic, multifaceted city that excels in the sectors of technology, culture, tourism and academia.

The programme for Appendino’s visit was organised by the Embassy of Italy in London and included a meeting with London&Partners, a public-private partnership in charge of attracting investment to London; a visit to Mercato Metropolitano, a space redeveloped by Andrea Rasca hosting a non-industrial food market and cultural activities; and a presentation of the city of Turin at the embassy, before an audience of investors, journalists and tourism professionals. Appendino also met Italian professionals at Business Club Italia and Italian academics running projects at British universities and research institutes in collaboration with universities in Turin.

The presentation of Turin, part of the embassy’s public-diplomacy programme, was introduced by the Italian ambassador, Pasquale Terracciano, who also accompanied Appendino during her visit. He highlighted Turin’s many strong points, such as the international reach afforded by the presence of international organisations and foreign consulates, its technological excellence, particularly in the aerospace sector, and its sporting, cultural and tourist attractions.
