London, 15 October 2026 – The Embassy of Italy in London hosted at Casa Italia “The Italian Energy Flexibility Opportunity: Investing Across the Energy Value Chain”, organised in partnership with Baringa and the Italian Trade Agency. The event brought together investors, market participants and advisers from the London market to discuss the opportunities offered by Italy’s power flexibility market: storage assets, services, optimisation software and trading.

Baringa is a global management consultancy and a leading adviser to the energy sector, supporting investors, lenders, utilities and developers on energy markets, infrastructure, transactions and the energy transition.

“Italy is pursuing its energy transition with a clear, stable and market-based regulatory framework,” said the Ambassador of Italy to the United Kingdom, Fabio Cassese. “London is home to many of the investors and operators who helped build power flexibility in Europe. Events like this strengthen the dialogue between our two countries and highlight the opportunities that Italy offers to long-term investors.”

The discussion comes at a time of strong growth in renewables, which covered 41% of Italy’s electricity demand in 2025 according to grid operator Terna, and of the roll-out of MACSE, the mechanism through which Terna procures new storage capacity via auctions with long-term contracts. The first auction, in September 2025, awarded 10 GWh of storage capacity, with bids exceeding demand more than four times; the second, scheduled for 24 November 2026, will cover 16 GWh.

“Italy is becoming one of Europe’s most exciting markets for investment in power flexibility,” said Francesca Tedeschi, Partner at Baringa. “The opportunity goes well beyond batteries. As renewables grow, value will increasingly sit across the flexibility ecosystem, from assets and optimisation to trading and route-to-market. Understanding how these opportunities interact is becoming increasingly important for investors looking to deploy capital into the Italian energy transition.”

Baringa set the market and investment context for the discussion, with Francesca Tedeschi (Baringa), who moderated the evening. Clio Scandola, Amin El Mouttalibi (Baringa) and Piero Viganò (ADVANT Nctm) presented market trends, the revenue case and regulatory developments, while Nichola Plower (Baringa) explored the capabilities required to operate flexibility across the value chain. The closing panel, with Pierre Bartholin (Nuveen Infrastructure), Diego Parra (EOS IM Group), Sevastos Kavanozis (Engelhart) and Paul Troughton (Enel X), compared the perspectives of investors, asset owners, traders and operators, including insights from other European markets.

The event is the fourth of the series “The Italian Momentum – Insights for Global Investors”, launched by the Embassy to promote investment in Italy.
