London, 6 November 2026 – The Embassy of Italy in London hosted a press conference at Casa Italia to present the 2026–2027 season of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, one of the world’s most prestigious and internationally renowned musical institutions.

During the event, the Managing and Artistic Director of Teatro alla Scala, Fortunato Ortombina, presented the programme for the new season in conversation with Paolo Besana, the Theatre’s Director of Communications, outlining the main opera, symphonic and ballet productions that will take to the stage in Milan.

The press conference provided an important opportunity to promote the excellence of Italy’s musical tradition among British audiences and the media, highlighting Teatro alla Scala’s role as an international point of reference for opera, dance and symphonic music, as well as its ability to combine an artistic heritage of extraordinary value with a continued openness to innovation and new forms of artistic expression.

The event was opened by the Ambassador of Italy to the United Kingdom, Fabio Cassese, who emphasised La Scala’s significance as a symbol of Italian cultural identity and an ambassador for the country’s artistic excellence around the world.

“ La Scala is not only one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, it is also a symbol of Italy’s cultural identity – a place where tradition and innovation meet, and where music, theatre, and dance have inspired audiences for nearly 250 years.

The history of Teatro alla Scala is interwoven with that of Italy itself, reflecting the creativity, resilience, and passion that define our country,” Ambassador Cassese stated in his opening remarks.

The initiative forms part of the cultural diplomacy activities promoted by the Embassy of Italy in London, aimed at strengthening the presence and visibility of Italian artistic excellence in the United Kingdom and consolidating cultural dialogue between the two countries, including through the promotion of Italy’s leading musical institutions.
